This trip covers most interesting destinations of Northern India and takes you deep inside the Himalayas to discover village life. India home to a huge variety of languages, religious beliefs, historical, architectural & archaeological treasures: an area influenced by many over the centuries, including the British Raj. There are diverse communities living by the melted glacier water on the banks of Holy rivers. It is a truly remarkable and inspiring place. Expedition Leaders specially made tailor-made itinerary that offers a great opportunity to explore the cultural and sustainable aspects of the region as well as to experience age-old Indian culture, the hidden Himalayas and discover some amazing historical architectural masterpieces, such as The Taj Mahal.
Highlights: Historical and Cultural Delhi - Chandigarh – Toy train - Shimla & the Raj - Hot Springs- Farming villages and foothill communities – Sarahan Temple – Bhaba and Pin Valley Trek – Kaza – Manali – Possibly extension to Taj Mahal.
Day 00: 15 Sept. - Departure London at 9:50pm Virgin Atlantic.
Day 01: 16 Sept. – Arrival Delhi, sightseeing and overnight Delhi: Arrival 11:55 am at the New Delhi Airport. You’ll be collected from the airport and taken to your hotel for overnight.
Day 02: 17 Sept. – Train to Kalka and famous toy train to Shimla:
Fast Train from New Delhi to Kalka and connecting toy train to the hills of Shimla.
Day 03: 18 Sept. – Shimla/Tattapani
Heritage walk of Shimla and other sightseeing. Drive to Tattapani in the afternoon and overnight at the Hot Springs Hotel and Spa.
Day 04: 19 Sept. – Morning Village/Afternoon Sarahan
Morning visit to the local village and farmhouse at Thali, afternoon drive to the Ancient Sarahan Temple near Rampur for acclimatisation.
Day 05: 20 Sept. – Drive to Kafnu Village
The base for trekking and 2-3 hours afternoon walk to visit local villages in the hills (2,360m) to help acclimatise. Overnight at Home Stay.
Day 06: 21 Sept. – Start trekking, from Kafnu to Mulling Camp (3280m) Height gained 877m (5hrs): First day easy ascend through the Alpine hills, riverside and woods to top of the tree line range. Overnight camping.
Day 07: 22 Sept. - Day 11- Mulling – Kara
3560m(4hrs) Height gained 280m: Easy start and 3-4 hours uphill trek to Kara, leaving all the tree line behind and afternoon rest or exploration of the surrounding peaks.
Day 08: 23 Sept. - Kara – Pushtirang
4200m Final height gain during the day is ~700m.: Early morning start to cross the river and climbing higher above 4000m. Afternoon rest and this will help you further acclimatise. Overnight camp. Option to come back same route or carry on higher?
Day 09: 24 Sept. - Pushtirang to Bada Baldar:
Trekking over the pass at 4890m and carrying on over the old glaciers to Bada Balder. Early start to climb the pass and this is your final challenge to complete the goal. Tea on the top, while admiring the almighty Himalayas. Camp overnight at 4000m.
Day 10: 25 Sept. –Bada Balder to Mudh village Easy trek to Mudh, a village in the Tibetan style at 3750m. After lunch in the village, you’ll drive down to Kaza town (3650m) for evening shopping in local markets and relaxing overnight in the Hotel in Kaza.
Day 11: 26 Sept. – Morning drive to visit ancient Monastery and village of Kibber (4270m). Later drive to Kunzumpass at 4550m and down to camp for overnight at Gramphu. Driving by road 4/5 hours through the high Himalayas.
Day 12: 27 Sept. – Drive to Manali via Rotang pass at 3390m, early drive to Manali 4/5 hours afternoon shopping and visit to Hot springs at Vashisht and overnight in Manali.
Day 13: 28 Sept. – Fly from Kullu to Delhi or drive to Chandigarh and take an evening train to Delhi. Overnight in Delhi.
Day 14: 29 Sept. – Day trip to Taj Mahal Take an early morning fast express train 2/3 hours to the amazing Taj Mahal and in the afternoon visit to the Agra fort before returning back to Delhi by train.
Day 15: 30 Sept. - Return flight home We’ll get you picked up from your hotel and dropped in good time at the airport.
